Growing Indoors – No Matter the Space

Waiting for warm weather to enjoy gardening seems crazy! While I am excited every spring to set up my outdoor garden, I’m equally excited in the fall to get the indoor grow room back up and running. Whether you manage a large facility or tend a sunny kitchen windowsill, this edition brings together practical wisdom and stories from growers like you.

Although Garden Culture covers many subjects, we’re passionate about the idea that you can grow year-round by gardening indoors. Commercial facilities bring additional challenges compared to small home grows, but the principles are mostly the same. A trip to your local hydro store can help you get something small-scale going quickly.

To get it right, an indoor garden takes a fair bit of knowledge and a little trial and error. In this edition, Adam Clarke outlines essential design considerations for scaling indoor spaces, while Av Singh examines how advanced lighting strategies compare with natural sunlight. In his first article with Garden Culture, agronomist and all-around cool guy Graeme Montrose touches on a subject I really need help with. “Start Clean, Stay Clean, End Clean: The Universal Thrip Control Playbook (Part 1)” could save your life, or at least your plants.

And what about using AI? Can you know nothing about grow room design or growing and still have AI do it all for you? Plant scientist Robin Koehorst explores the true potential and real limits of artificial intelligence in the grow room, reminding us that data is only as good as the human judgment behind it.

This edition has so many other unique and interesting articles. Hopefully you can find some time to sit down, tune everything out, and have a good read.

Happy Gardening
