Give Two Figs

Hevingham, Norfolk, United Kingdom

The day I met Becky Rolf at BBC Good Food Show, I was instantly drawn to the beautiful seasonal growing charts that Give Two Figs had on their stall. This group’s clever name signifies care, and all the profits from their charts and calendars support their two current Grow-Your-Own projects in Hevingham.

One is an active community allotment, and the new venture-in-the-making is a community kitchen garden at the village hall. On their first site, the community helped construct a polytunnel, small raised beds and communal facilities. Gardening workshops, open days and social get-togethers are regularly held to aid growing tasks and celebrate simple human connections. The community was also involved in the Village Hall project from the very start, from the design phase through implementation and ongoing maintenance.

Weekly harvests, pick-your-own fruit, growing and garden craft workshops are scheduled for 2022. Give Two Figs hopes to expand to support more projects that encourage others to reap the benefits of GYO and open a dialogue to raise awareness about what good, healthy food means.
