Incredible Farm

Todmorden, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Incredible Farm is a Social Enterprise spin-off from Incredible Edible Todmorden. This hand-built farm aims to reinvent skills people will need in the age of climate change. Their mission is to train young people to grow and market food, create land-based employment, increase the local food supply and develop sustainable growing methods for our environment. Work started on the original farm in Walsden in November 2010. In 2017, the farm moved locations to a larger plot of 15 acres of rather hilly ground – a challenging but achievable task when the passion is there.

Nick Green, the Farm’s director and Mike Smith, Head Grower and educator, have planted 400+ fruit and nut trees and 2000 native hardwood trees. They keep six triple-purpose cows for manure, milk and beef, laying hens, geese and ducks for Christmas, and grow fruit and vegetables that supply the local wholefood shops, restaurants and the market. Mike runs Forest School farming sessions each week for home education groups and provides outreach in a local state primary school to create an edible ecosystem. The team believes that sustainable small-scale farming is the future. They learn and re-invent the skills to pass them on, incorporating courses in permaculture, bushcraft and foraging.
