It all began as a hobby in 2010 with a homemade 8×8 “ghetto” greenhouse near downtown Calgary. Over seven years, Trevor Anderson enjoyed growing over 200 starter plants for friends and neighbors along with fresh fruit and vegetable crops for his family. After experimenting with hydroponics, he was hooked. In 2017, Trevor turned his passion into a business, and Lil Green Urban Farm was born.
The goal is to provide families and businesses in Calgary with fresh, locally grown microgreens year-round. A new and improved greenhouse stands 8×14 large and holds 200 hydroponic net pots; outdoors, grow tunnels go up in March on seven yeards within a 20-minute bike ride from the downtown core. The last outdoor harvest typically happens in November. Although not certified organic, Lil Green Urban Farm uses only natural fertilizers and organic seeds and soil. Customers order online or through a CSA program and can be sure they’re eating the highest quality produce possible.
