Bees, Trees, Flowers and Peas is a biodynamic-certified horticultural contracting company set up in 2016. With many years of experience in edible space design, Phill Dewhurst negotiated a food growing contract using land and facilities belonging to a local Michelin-starred restaurant and a 5-star hotel. The hotel’s ethos of farm-to-table brought international recognition amongst fine dining enthusiasts.
An annual two-week international culinary festival has been held there every year since the turn of the millennium. The contract ran successfully until the COVID-19 lockdown forced the hotel to close. Currently, the company is contracted to undertake a sizeable private garden restoration project. The garden in Lancashire had initially been scoped out and designed by an internationally renowned English garden designer, nursery owner and plant hunter, Mr James Russel, who also occupied the position of Head Gardener at Castle Howard for several years.
Phill has spent the last year watching a glorious garden emerge from the background as he felled, pruned, weeded, mulched, sowed and planted the garden back to its former glory. There are rare tree peonies, roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, viburnums, philadelphus, and magnolias, all shaded by some of the rarest trees in the country, thanks to the extensive collection from a private arboretum created over decades.
